Mečislovas Reinys (born February 5, 1884 in the village of Madagascaras, Daugailiai parish , Zarasai district , † November 8, 1953 in Vladimir , Russia ) was a Lithuanian clergyman and politician and auxiliary bishop in Vilnius .

education

In 1909 Mečislovas Reinys graduated from the St. Petersburg seminary .

1909-1914 he studied at the University of Leven and Strasbourg.

In 1912 he defended the dissertation in philosophy .

activity

Mečislovas Reinys was a lecturer at Vilnius University from 1916 to 1922 and at the seminary in Kaunas from 1922 to 1924 . Reinys was Foreign Minister of Lithuania from 1925 to 1926 .

On April 5, 1926, Pope Pius XI appointed him . to auxiliary bishop in Vilnius and titular bishop of Tiddi . The episcopal ordination donated him on May 16, 1926, the emeritus bishop of Vilnus, Jurgis Matulaitis-Matulevicius . In 1940 he was given the honorary title of Archbishop with the titular Archbishopric of Cypsela .

On June 12, 1947, Mečislovas Reinys was arrested and questioned for anti-Soviet activity and fighting for the rights of believers. He was then convicted and sent to Vladimir as a sentence for 8 years , where he died in prison in 1953.

Mečislovas Reinys published work in psychology , education , theology and ethics .

After his death, the beatification process was opened.

Honors

The Lithuanian Post issued a special stamp in his honor in January 2009 .
