mea culpa is the title of the fifth studio album by the Austrian band Bilderbuch .
background
After the previous album Magic Life had sold just as successfully as its predecessor Schick Schock and had received mostly positive feedback, the group released a live EP with two tracks and the newly recorded single one night in manila in the summer of 2018 .
On December 1, 2018, the band announced that they would be releasing two albums, one of them entitled mea culpa , which was released on December 4, and the other was to be called Vernissage My Heart and available for purchase from February 22, 2019 be acquired.
reception
The journalist for the Austrian daily Der Standard Saoud drew comparisons with Frank Ocean , who, like Bilderbuch 2016, announced and published his albums at short notice. In addition, the motif of the Superrichkids is also a parallel to the American singer. In summary, the critic criticized the fact that the album was just more of the same and that Bilderbuch achieved a status that made expectations of innovation higher.
Samir Köck from the newspaper Die Presse rated the album in the opposite way : The gentle house beats on “Lounge 2.0” are a nice surprise. French house à la Etienne de Crecy and daft punk can also be a picture book. Köck not only praised the stylistic break, but also that the texts were, in his opinion, uninterpretable .
