It is the highest peak of a small chain of hills consisting of a total of four peaks, upstream of the Cairngorms to the north and separated from them by the Ryvoan Pass . The southwestern slopes of the mountain have some old stocks of Scots pines (English: Scots pine), which have been supplemented in recent decades by new plantings. To the east and north, the equally steep slopes are behind areas with dwarf shrub heath overgrown, especially Heather . In the area of the mountain there is also a herd of reindeer that has been kept there since 1952.

Because of its location, the Meall a 'Bhuachaille offers excellent views of the Cairngorms. Since it is also comparatively easy to reach, it is a popular destination. The Meall a 'Bhuachaille can be climbed from different directions. The most popular climbs begin at the Glenmore Visitor Center , south of the mountain, on the approach road from Aviemore to the lower terminus of the Cairngorm funicular . From there a steadily rising route leads through the pine trees on the western slope up to the saddle between the Meall a 'Bhuachaille and the 732-meter-high Creagan Gorm to the west . From there the path leads over the broad west ridge to the summit marked by a large cairn . Another approach leads from Glenmore initially largely flat on a forest road to the east. This turns south of the mountain gradually to the northeast and leads to the small An Lochan Uaine , a lake that is striking because of its green color. From there a gently sloping path leads to the Ryvoan pass . Shortly before the Bothy Ryvoan , the steep ascent, partly built with stairs, branches off, which leads from the east to the Meall a 'Bhuachaille. The mountain can also be climbed in the course of a longer tour over the wide ridge of the chain consisting of four peaks.
