The Uhlstädter Heide nature reserve is located in the municipalities of Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel and Unterwellenborn in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district and in the Krölpa municipality in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia . The Saale flows north and the B 88 runs, while the B 281 runs south .

The 1153.5 ha area with NSG no. 176 was placed under nature protection in 1981.
