The Kulm nature reserve is located in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia . It extends west of Schlegel , a district of the municipality of Rosenthal am Rennsteig , around the 726 meter high Kulmberg . The state road L 2372 runs in the north-eastern part of the area, and the state border with Bavaria runs not far to the south .
