The nature reserve Frießnitzer See - Struth is located in the district of Greiz and in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia . It extends southwest, west, north, east and southeast of Struth , a district of the municipality of Harth-Pöllnitz . The B 2 runs on the north- western edge and the B 175 on the north-eastern edge .

The 355 ha area with the NSG no. 345 was placed under nature protection in 1995.

Protective measures

The NABU Foundation for National Natural Heritage and the NABU District Association Gera-Greiz carried out extensive protective measures in the NSG from 2012 to 2013, largely financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD for short). It was u. a. 90,000 cubic meters of mud were dredged in the lake and grazing with water buffalo was introduced. The Natura 2000 station in Osterland is also active in the NSG.
