The Kobersfelsen (also Koberfelsen ) is a rock on the Burgkhammer reservoir in the area of Burgk (town Schleiz ) in the Thuringian Saale-Orla district and a typical formation of the Thuringian slate mountains . Furthermore, it is about six hectares of nature reserve , due to the plants growing in the niches and crevices . The nature reserve is also part of the over four km² FFH area Burgk-Bleiberg-Kobersfelsen (DE-5436-301) .

origin of the name

According to a legend, Elisabeth, the daughter of Herr von Burgk, loved the knight Kober, but did not have the courage to confess her love. Therefore she announced that she would marry the man who can jump over the Saale with his horse from the high rock . Kober jumped and reached the other side of the river. But his horse collapsed there and buried him under itself. He died in Elizabeth's embrace, which then as a Cistercian - Nun into Convent Holy Cross in Saalburg went. Since then the rock has been called Kobersfelsen . The naming after the author Julius Kober , which is claimed in other sources, cannot be correct, as the name of the rock can already be proven in the 19th century.

ways

A hiking trail along the Saale leads to the rock that drops steeply into the water . The passage on its water side takes place over a length of about 150 m over a hanging walkway attached to the rock , about 3 m above the water surface .

Nature reserve

The 6 hectare nature reserve Kobersfelsen was created in September 1989 by resolution of the Gera district assembly . In addition to mixed forests of canyons and slopes, the defining habitat is silicate rocks and crests with crevices and pioneer vegetation . Species relevant for nature conservation are the Spanish flag and the great mouse-eared mouse .
