The nature reserve Wurzelbergfarmde is located in the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt and in the district of Sonneberg in Thuringia .
It extends northeast of the pumped storage plant Goldisthal between the western Goldisthal and the eastern Neuhaus am Rennweg . The state road L 1112 runs along the southwestern edge of the area , while the L 1147 runs northeast.

The 238.6 ha area with the NSG no. 118 was placed under nature protection in 1961.
