The Staatsbruch nature reserve is located in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia . It extends southwest of the core city of Lehesten . The state road L 1096 runs on the western edge of the area, to the east runs the L 2374. The state border with Bavaria runs not far to the west.

The 90.6 hectare area with NSG no. 285 was placed under nature conservation in 2001.
