The Assberg - Hasenleite nature reserve is located in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia . It extends southwest, south and south of Meura . The B 281 runs along the eastern edge of the area and the L 2654 state road to the north . Schlage (a right tributary of the Lichte ), Brandisbach , Jückelbach and Suhlbach flow through the area. The Leibis-Lichte dam extends northwest with a water surface of 106.56 ha .

The 581.4 hectare area with NSG no. 142 was placed under nature protection in 1982.
