The Greifenstein nature reserve is located in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia . The 59.9 ha large nature reserve with the NSG no. 158 extends on the northern outskirts of Bad Blankenburg . It includes the Burgberg (also called "Greifenstein" or "Hausberg") with the Greifenstein castle ruins and the southern slopes of the Kesselberg north of the Greifenstein.
meaning
The area has been designated as a nature reserve since 1961 because of the biodiversity in fauna and flora.
