Mechthild von Bienburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mechthild von Bienburg (also Buenburg ) (* before 1223 , † after 1265 ) was an abbess of the free worldly Buchau women's monastery in what is now Bad Buchau am Federsee .

Mechthild von Bienburg came from the family of the Reichsministeriale von Bienburg (also Biegenburg or Beienburg), who named themselves after a castle near Ravensburg . A papal document from 1264 suggests that Mechthild came from this family, which had a close relationship with the Teutonic Order .

According to the tradition of the monastery, Mechthild von Bienburg was elected abbess in 1223 . In any case, from other sources the years 1229 to 1265 can be documented for their term of office. Then she lived as a nun in the Cistercian convent of Baindt .
