Medal for services to foundations
The medal for services to foundations is an award that has been awarded by the Federal Association of German Foundations since 1980 . With her, important personalities from the foundation sector are honored for their life's work. This can be a founder or a person who has made a special contribution to the foundation system. The medal for services to foundations is an ideal award and not associated with financial endowment. As a rule, it is presented by the Federal President . It is awarded at irregular intervals. It is also possible for two medals to be awarded in one year. Since 1994, the Federal Association of German Foundations has also been awarding the German Foundation Prize for individual achievements.
Determination of the award winners
Proposals for a prize winner can be submitted to the Federal Association of German Foundations by August 20 each year. The decision to award the medal for services to foundations is made by the board and advisory board of the Federal Association of German Foundations on the proposal of the board.
Appearance of the medal
The front of the medal for services to the foundation system shows a portrait of Jakob Fugger the Rich, founder of the Fuggerei in Augsburg and a famous role model of the German foundation system. The pattern for the 142-gram medal, cast from 18-carat gold, is an original from 1518, created by the Augsburg craftsman Hans Schwarz. The inscription “IAC. FGGER. AUGUSTA. VIN. M. D. X VIII ”encloses the portrait of Jakob Fugger the Rich. "Bundesverband Deutscher Stiftungen" (Federal Association of German Foundations) is engraved on the back, while "For services to the foundation system" is written on the inside.
