Medicina is a fraction of the Italian municipality of Pescia in the province of Pistoia , Tuscany .

description

Medicina is one of the places called The Ten Castles . The area in which the village is located, the Valleriana , is also known as Pescian Switzerland . Medicina with its stone houses and narrow streets is an ancient, secluded place and is located at 532  m slm. The fraction is located about 5 kilometers northwest of the municipality in Pescia and is surrounded by chestnut forests.

History

Over the centuries Medicina has been the scene of fierce fighting between Lucca and Florence , who tried very hard to get it into their possession. It is the settlement where Francesco Ferrucci stayed the day before the Battle of Gavinana (1530). The village was annexed to the municipality of Pescia in 1881 along with 120 hectares of land from the Villa Basilica property . However, the parishes still belong to the Diocese of Lucca .

Buildings & sights

Little remains of the original building. It was rebuilt at the beginning of the 19th century. Noteworthy are the baptismal font from the mid-16th century and the two wooden statues from the 15th century, both of which depict Mary and the baby Jesus.
