Megace was a German heavy metal band.

Band history

The band was founded on February 22nd, 1988 by Melanie Bock, Jörg Schrör (ex-XANDRIL, Torment, Entire Defeat) and Michael Müller. In March, Robbin Kortt, a second guitarist, joined the band. Thorsten Jungmann also played drums for a short time , but was replaced by Kai Alexander Spiekermann that same month. In June the band played the first 2 shows in Hamburg. In September Robbin Kortt was replaced by Klaus Florian "Dirthy" Möller (the nickname was misspelled on purpose). In October 1988, the first demo cassette The Sign of the Ape was recorded with four tracks, which sold around 500 times. After further concerts, Rainer Behn (ex-Kilgore) joined Megace in June 1989 as the new drummer. With him the unpublished demo AAARRG - Demo 1 was recorded in Bochum . On June 17th, Megace played at the Lübeck Alternative Open Air , where Blind Guardian and Exumer also performed. In the same year, two more unreleased demos were recorded before the band split from Michael Müller at the end of the year. Christian "Chriddle" Wulff from Drowning in Real was quickly found as a new bass player. Megace played with his old band on June 16, 1990 in Sondershausen in what was then the GDR . A little later Rainer Behn left Megace again, but still helped with the recordings for the second demo This is the News , which took place in the Arschweh Studio de Band under the direction of Kai Hansen . With Carsten Schubert came a new drummer in October 1990. Several concerts followed, including a. as opening act for Blind Guardian and Iced Earth in the Hamburg market hall.

In July 1991 Megace recorded the debut album Human Errors , which was released on August 26 by 1MF Records and distributed by Rough Trade . Over 5,000 copies were actually sold. Due to strong disagreements with the label, the band could not and did not want to release any further albums until the litigation ended in 1993 with the separation from 1MF Records . After further concerts, Klaus Florian “Dirthy” Möller and Carsten Schubert left the band in August 1992. A new guitarist was soon found in Stefan Speidel. A new drummer did not join the band until April 1993. In the winter, the remaining band members recorded a never released demo with a drum computer . Eventually Stephan Gora joined Megace as the new drummer. The demo Pseudo Identity was recorded in the new line-up , a little later the band separated from Stephan Gora. This time, a permanent replacement was finally found in Andreas Düwel. In 1995 the band played more concerts and recorded two unpublished demos, on which German-language pieces could be heard for the first time.

In May 1996 Megace began without a record deal to record the second album. At the end of 1997, five pieces had been mixed. In May 1999 the second album Inner War was finally released on Angular Records.

Since Jörg Schrör (from 2001: "Jörg Düsedau) was no longer satisfied with the stylistic development of the band, he left Megace in September 2001 to initially join the Motörhead- Coverband Nö Class for six months , and then together with other old ones Bunnies of the Hamburg scene founded the old-school metal band FIRE. The other members continue to play as Step Into Liquid . Currently (2012) both FIRE and Step Into Liquid are still active.
