Megalokambos ( Greek Μεγαλόκαμπος ( m. Sg. )) Is a village in the northern Greek region of East Macedonia and Thrace . It is administered by the Prosotsani community .

location

Megalokambos lies in the valley of the Angitis . About 2 km east is the village of Sitagri , in the north the place Mikrokambos .

Administrative division

Under the then name Megalo Sivindrik (Μεγάλο Σιβιντρίκ), the village was first incorporated into the Prosotsani community in 1922 and then added to the Minare Tsiflik rural community (Κοινότητα Μιναρέ Τσιφλίκ) in 1925 . In 1927 the name was changed to Megalokambos, in the same year Megalokambos became a rural municipality until the municipality reform in 1997 , when seven rural municipalities merged to form the municipality of Sitagri. Since the administrative reform in 2010 , Megalokambos has formed a local community in the municipality of Sitagri in the municipality of Prosotsani.

The place is predominantly inhabited by Pontic Greeks , most of whom were resettled to Greece in 1923 after the Asia Minor catastrophe .

Around 1200 megalocambites live abroad, mostly in Germany, Canada and the USA. In Germany, the majority live in the Stuttgart area.

Attractions

Megalokambos has a church, Agios Konstantinos and Eleni and a primary school. The main attraction is the Angitissee, which was created by a technical dam on the Angitis River.
