The Mehano company is a Slovenian manufacturer of model trains and toys, founded in 1952 under the name Mehanotehnika . From the end of the 1990s, sales had also been established in Germany . In the meantime, however, the manufacturer has lost its importance again, as Mehano does not offer any spare parts service.

The program includes high-speed trains such as Thalys , TGV , AVE and Euromed, as well as US locomotives , wagons and trams . Most of them are no longer in the range.

Mehano has been producing models based on German or European models since 2000. Most of these models correspond to today's standard quality of "high-price models" under the Mehano Prestige brand . Examples are the Blue Tiger , the G2000 , Class 66 , Siemens ES64P (Eurosprinter) , SNCB Class 51, SNCB HLD 77, various TGV versions and the Vossloh G 1700-2 BB . Most of this is no longer available in the range. The models are available for both the two-wire direct current and the single-wire alternating current system. Initially, Mehano also offered versions for Trix Express. There is also a rather small range of freight wagons.

In addition, the brand has also become known for its inexpensive starter sets, which are sold via ALDI at Christmas time . In terms of quality, these have little to do with the Prestige series, they are very simplified models, some of which are only very vaguely similar to their models. No spare parts are available here either.

On November 4, 2008, the dismissal of the remaining 140–160 employees and thus the probable closure of the plant were announced. The reason given in the Slovenian media was a 60% decrease in the total order backlog compared to 2006 and outstanding payments from Belgian and German customers. Since February 2012 the company Lemke has taken over the German sales for Mehano.
