The Meica Ammerland Fleischwarenfabrik Fritz My GmbH & Co. KG is a mid-sized meat processing company owned by the family. The focus of economic activity is the production of various sausage specialties and ready meals . The company is based in Edewecht . Meica is derived from the name Meinen & Kahmann. The company is owned by the heirs of the company's founder, Fritz Meinen.

history

The company was founded in Edewecht in 1908 by the farmer and master butcher Fritz Meinen . In 1949 the company introduced the first black tin can for sausages. In 1973 it produced sausages with 100% beef as a separate product line for the first time . The distribution of the product range takes place, apart from a factory sales , mostly on the food retail sector . In 2006 around 400 people were employed here.

Since the BSE crisis, the company has been producing organic poultry sausage, organic ready-made meals (with and without meat), organic sausages, organic refrigerated products and organic vegetarian sausages in accordance with the EC organic regulation under the name Bio-Krusenhof . During the later nitrofen crisis, around 80,000 units of organic poultry products were withdrawn after laboratory samples showed a false positive .
