Meike Katrin Stein , (born March 21, 1991 in Nuremberg ) is a German composer , orchestrator of film music, musician and author .

Life

Stein studied musicology from 2010 to 2013 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the University of Vienna with minor subjects in art, music and theater and from 2013 to 2016 film music and sound design at the Ludwigsburg Film Academy . She was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation and was awarded the EMAS - European Music Author's Scholarship 2014 and completed film music workshops with Marcel Barsotti and Ulrich Reuter . She started playing the violin at the age of six . Regular lessons in piano, singing and music theory were added. She took composition lessons from Eva Sindichakis and Marco Herstenstein, among others . She wrote her bachelor thesis on the topic “ The beginnings of silent film music in Europe. The origins and aesthetic developments of European silent film music ”.

As a scholarship holder of the Akademischer Gesangverein München (AGV), she took part in various orchestral and jazz projects in Italy and Germany between 2012 and 2016. Stein was a member of the folk metal band Krayenzeit (violin and vocals) and appeared as a guest of the hard rock band Yukon. She has been a permanent member of the Caligari Band and the Ludwigsburg Symphony Orchestra since 2014, and has been deputy concertmaster since 2017.

Meike Katrin Stein lives as a freelance artist in Ludwigsburg.

Career

Through her work as a composer and orchestrator of film music, she worked a. a. with ensembles such as the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg and the Štátny komorný orchester Žilina / Slovakia. The compositions " Atlantis-Suite " (2015) and " The Ballad of James O'Shea " (2016) were premiered by the Ludwigsburg Symphony Orchestra . The music for the silent film " Ludwigsburg Sinfonie " (2016), created together with seven other composers, was intoned for the first time by the festival orchestra in front of 8,000 listeners at the open air of the Ludwigsburg Palace Festival.

Meike Katrin Stein also orchestrates music for theater and opera stages: For her orchestrations on “ Alice in Wonderland ” (2015) by Johannes Harneit (Stuttgart version), “ How do I get rich and happy? "(2016) by Mischa Spolianski and" Frankenstein "(2017/2018) by Jan Dvořák , she worked with the Stuttgart State Opera , the Mannheim National Theater and the Hamburg State Opera . The films " Man of God " (director: Viktoria Aleksanyian ) and " Heil " (director: Eva-Maria Naburtowitz ), for which she composed the music, were shown at the 2016 Festival de Cannes in the Short Film Corner.
