Meikle Ross is an uninhabited peninsula in Dumfries and Galloway in southwest Scotland . Together with the offshore island of Little Ross , it marks both the confluence of Kirkcudbright Bay with the Solway Firth and its transition to the northwest into Wigtown Bay .
Meikle Ross has approximately the shape of an extensive with the tip to southeast spades having a length and width of each 1300 meters. There are two elevations on the peninsula: the higher one, also called Meikle Ross, at 90 meters, and the Ree of Ross at 63 meters to the southeast. The rocky west coast facing Wigtown Bay is known as The Bents . The approximately 400 meter wide strait The Sound with the islets Fox Craig and Richardson's Rock limits the peninsula in the southeast, on the opposite side is the island of Litle Ross.
Meikle Ross is connected to the rest of the mainland by a land bridge about 300 meters wide and up to about ten meters above sea level . It is bounded by Fauldbog Bay in the west and Ross Bay with the village of Ross in the east. The 75 meter high Mull of Ross joins it on the inland opposite side.
The entire coastline of the peninsula is protected as part of the Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) Borgue Coast .
