Milestone (Retzau)

Anhalt milestone near Retzau

The milestone near Retzau is a small monument in the city of Dessau-Roßlau in Saxony-Anhalt .

While the milestone in Kleutsch is not on the current route of the state road 135 , the milestone northeast of Retzau can still be found on this. The Anhalt round base stone bears the inscription II miles from Dessau and is located south of Sollnitz . Two miles are roughly equivalent to 15 kilometers, since the Anhalt mile has been equated with the Prussian mile since 1841 .

The 64 centimeter high stone is a listed building . Since it can still be found in the corridor of Sollnitz (city of Dessau-Roßlau), it is entered in the monument register there and not in Retzau (city of Raguhn-Jeßnitz ). It is registered here with the number 094 40254 as an architectural monument . In 2016 the area surrounding the milestone was cleared of vegetation. Anhalt two-mile stones can still be found near Porst or Quellendorf , among others . They were much more common in the past than they are today, but were just as displaced by the introduction of the Myriamter stones as by carelessness.
