Milestone (Obermühle Emseloh)

Quarter milestone near Emseloh

The milestone at the upper mill of Emseloh is a Prussian quarter milestone in the city of Allstedt in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt .

Like the all-mile obelisk in Emseloh , the stone was in a secondary location for a long time, about 70 meters from the current location east of Emseloh. Until 2002 it stood there on the southern side of the street, 150 meters outside Emseloh, since then it has been on the northern side of the street 300 meters east of the town at a parking lot exit at Obermühle. Although it stands securely on a pedestal and was renovated in 2002, part of the base is still missing. Next to the milestone there is an explanatory board from the Milestones research group with the data of the road and the milestone types along it.

The small monument is not on the list of listed monuments from 2015, but is still under monument protection , as all milestones in Saxony-Anhalt are covered by it. They are not only regarded as monuments to the history of transport, but also as legal monuments. Like all quarter milestones between Halle (Saale) and Sangerhausen , the stone is a so-called little bell and bears the inscription “1/4 mile”. A Prussian mile was 7.532 kilometers and a quarter mile was 1.883 kilometers. The distance indicator is located at the historic Prussian State Office Berlin - Kassel , which is now Landesstraße 151 in this section .
