Milestone (Weißenfels)

Prussian whole milestone in Weißenfels

The milestone in Weißenfels is a small monument in the Neustadt of Weißenfels on the left side of the Saal in the Burgenland district in Saxony-Anhalt .

Merseburger Straße in the north of Weißenfels is the main street of Neustadt and belongs to the historic Prussian Chaussee from Berlin to the Thuringian border near Giebelroth , which was built in the 1820s. It used to be marked with milestones every quarter of a mile , but only a few of them have survived. The stone is 26 miles away from the state capital, which corresponds to 195.8 kilometers. In addition, the inscriptions on the obelisk indicate the distances to Halle ( 4 miles ), Merseburg ( 2 miles ) and Weißenfels itself. The last information has not been passed down with certainty and can no longer be fully deciphered, but one assumes 3/8 mile to Weißenfels , since at the Ganzmeilenstein in Merseburg there is the information 2 3/8 miles to Weißenfels.

In the monument list the distance indicator is the collection number 094 66152 as a monument entered. The neighboring allotment garden is called Am Meilenstein , which underlines its former effect on the landscape. Today the stone stands protected - but also a bit hidden - in a hedge on Landesstraße 182 near the entrance to Bundesstraße 91 on the west side. It was renovated in 2003 and given a new eagle plate. The whereabouts of the benches has not been clarified. Since the stone now stands on a concrete foundation, they are probably no longer there.
