Meinolf Michels

Meinolf Michels (* 2. November 1935 in Großeneder ; † 4. March 2019 ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and member of parliament .

Life

Michels attended elementary school and then the agricultural college . After graduating, he worked as a self-employed farmer. Since October 1972 he was chairman of the board of trustees of the Hardehausen rural community college . Michels had been a member of the town council of Borgentreich since 1975 and from 1969 to 1974 honorary mayor of the community of Großeneder and later of the town of Borgentreich . He had been a member of the district council since 1969. In the Bundestag , he was for the first time in 1980 constituency Hoexter - Lip II selected. He was chairman of the food, agriculture and forestry working group of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group and since 1991 representative of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and at the same time a representative in the Assembly of the Western European Union . At the end of the legislative period in 2002 he waived re-election for reasons of age.

honors and awards

For his social commitment Meinolf Michels was awarded the Pope's award "Commander of the New Year's Eve " in 1989 by Archbishop Johannes Joachim Degenhardt . In 1994 he was also awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany by the Federal President. In November 2002 he was also awarded the Schorlemer plaque in silver by the Westphalian-Lippian Agricultural Association for his services in the professional field .
