Meinrad Pichler

Meinrad Pichler (born November 18, 1947 in Hörbranz ) is a Vorarlberg middle school teacher and historian . In addition to numerous publications on regional history, he also wrote the third volume of a comprehensive new Vorarlberg regional history (1861–2015).
Life
Pichler studied German and history at the University of Vienna and began teaching after completing his teaching degree at the Bundesrealgymnasium and Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium Dornbirn-Schoren . From 1994 until his retirement in 2010 he was director of the Federal High School Gallusstrasse in Bregenz, was a member of the “School in Motion” project at the Federal Ministry for Education and the Arts and head of advanced training for directors in the area of the state school board for Vorarlberg from 1995 to 1998. Teaching assignments at various universities. The first critical appraisal of the National Socialist rule in Vorarlberg , its prehistory and its aftermath began with the anthology "Supplements to the newer Vorarlberger Landesgeschichte" published by Pichler in 1983 . Accordingly, in 1982 he was one of the co-founders of the contemporary history association " Johann-August-Malin-Gesellschaft ". From 1974 to 1977 Pichler was the honorary managing director of the “Vorarlberg Culture Producers Group”, which carried out the “Bregenz Randspiele”. In 1979 he was elected the founding chairman of the “Vorarlberger LehrerInitiative” (VLI), the first non-party teacher representation in Austria . In 2014, Pichler was awarded the “Science Prize of the State of Vorarlberg” for his numerous works on the recent history of Vorarlberg. Since 2008 he has been writing regularly for the daily newspaper “ Vorarlberger Nachrichten ” on historical and current political issues.
