Meknessi (also Maknassy or Meknassy ; Arabic المكناسي, DMG al-Miknāsī ) is a city in Tunisia . It is located in the Sidi Bouzid governorate in the center of the country and has almost 15,000 inhabitants.
The city, lying on a plain, is located about 120 kilometers west of the coastal town of Sfax and a few kilometers north of the Bou Hedma National Park and in a west-east direction running mountain ranges, foothills of the Sahara Atlas . The city is considered to be one of Tunisia's inland development centers; There is a lot of agricultural irrigation in their vicinity . A large number of Arabian horse breeders can be found in the city with annual meetings.
During the revolution in Tunisia in 2010/2011 , violent clashes between demonstrators and police broke out in Meknessi, resulting in deaths.
