Mel Verez (born January 3, 1990 in Vienna ) is an Austrian singer and songwriter .

Life

Verez found her way to music at the age of twelve when she wrote her first song (in German at the time).

Her classical, musical training at a music high school in Vienna enabled her to continue writing numerous compositions. Meanwhile, over 150 songs are from her own pen.

The musician has been on stage since she was 17 and performed at events such as the Life Ball and the Ö3 Zeitreise . In 2012 she took part in the second season of The Voice of Germany , in the blind auditions she was brought into the team by The BossHoss , but was eliminated in the following battle round .

Together with saxophonist and painter Alex Borek, she founded her first funk & soul formation Gordopac in 2009 . This was followed by the Funk & Soul Sessions in the Luftbad and Ost Klub in Vienna around the New York bassist Kris Jefferson and the soul singer Big John from Oklahoma. There they met their future musicians and appeared regularly as session openers. In the same year, Verez began her jazz singing studies , which she successfully completed in 2013.

In 2010 the debut album The Way I Do It came out and two years later the EP entitled Stronger Than Before was released. In 2013 the single Head Under Water was released , which was regularly heard on Radio Vienna.

For the album Chemical Reaction , which was released in November 2015 , she and her band started a so-called crowdfunding campaign on Startnext , which motivated the fans of the band to finance part of the album production costs.

In addition to appearances in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary and England, the Austrian also managed to present her music in a smaller formation in Chengdu (China) in 2014.

April 2016 the singer is with her new solo project Mel Verez , u. a. with Clara Blume, Schmieds Puls, Bluatschink and other acts nominated for the Amadeus Unplugged Award , which is presented at the Porgy & Bess jazz club .
