The Melchior Harbor is a small natural harbor in the group of the Melchior Islands in the West Antarctic Palmer Archipelago . It is bordered in a semicircle by the Delta and Alpha Islands in the north, the Beta and Kappa Islands in the west and the Gamma Island in the south.
The name, based on the name of the archipelago, was probably made by scientists from the British Discovery Investigations , who roughly measured it in 1927. The archipelago is named after Vice Admiral Jules Bernard François Melchior (1844-1908), who assisted the Fourth French Antarctic Expedition (1903-1905) under the direction of the polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot with the departure of Brest . Argentine expeditions made further surveys in 1942, 1943 and 1948.
