Melchior Schramm

Melchior Schramm (* around 1553 in Münsterberg , Duchy of Münsterberg ; † September 6, 1619 in Offenburg ) was a German organist and composer .

Life

Schramm, who came to Prague as a child , became a singing boy in 1553 in the court chapel of Archduke Ferdinand of Tyrol . With his court he came to Innsbruck , where he was trained in Ferdinand's newly founded boys' singing school.

From 1569 to 1571 he was tutored by the Innsbruck court organist Servatius Rorif , after which he was organist at the newly established collegiate church of the women's monastery in Hall for two years .

In 1574 Schramm was appointed organist and court conductor at the court of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen , where he rebuilt and directed the court chapel at the young court under Count Karl II of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen .

Around 1596 he passed the direction of the court orchestra to Narcissus Zängel , a pupil of Orlando di Lasso , and subsequently performed the duties of court organist. In 1605 he was appointed city organist in the Free Imperial City of Offenburg in Baden. He lived here until his death in 1619.
