Melchsee Chapel
The Melchsee Chapel (also Frutt Chapel ) is a Roman Catholic chapel built between 1899 and 1900 on Melchsee-Frutt in the canton of Obwalden .
history
The original Mariahilf chapel stood diagonally above today's chapel, which is on the way from the Kurhaus to the Distelboden directly on the banks of the Melchsee . Franz Meinrad Alderhalden (1707–1788), pastor in Kerns , built the chapel on his own account. Along with the Tannalp chapel and the Aa chapel, it is one of three chapels on Melchsee-Frutt. All three chapels were consecrated on August 13, 1765. The current chapel, built between 1899 and 1900, is east-facing and has a gable roof with a retracted apse . A bell is hung in the gable on the roof ridge . The chapels Aa, Melchsee and Tannalp are owned by the foundation of the three chapels on the high alps Aa, Melchsee and Tannen , established in 1973 . The land on which the chapels stand was sold by the Alpgenossenschaft Kerns outside the stone bridge , the Alpgenossenschaft Melchsee , the private members of Kerns and the Melchsee-Alp members of Sarnen to the foundation in 1973. The last renovation of the chapel took place between 1969 and 1971 and cost around 153,000 francs . In 1986 a heater was installed in the chapel.
Furnishing
The miraculous image of Mariahilf on the left wall of the choir arch comes from the original chapel. Franz Josef Weiss painted this copy in 1790. He added a Marian prayer at the bottom of the picture.
O Maria!
Gracious!
The Lord with you!
With the angel's greeting, we mother of God greet you from God!
Overshadowed by the ghost!
Every tongue praises you about your sex.
You are holy!
Blemish in.
Mür poorer are!
Pray for us, your son, and your children.
The Way of the Cross from 1926 was created by Beat Gasser from Lungern . The coats of arms for the windows were drawn by Bepp Haas from Sachseln . A cycle of images of St. Wendelin is attached to the back wall . The frescoes were removed from the back wall of the old chapel in 1951, mounted on wood and installed in the new chapel.
