Melocactus lemairei is a species of the genus Melocactus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet lemairei honors the French philologist and cactus specialist Charles Lemaire .

Melocactus lemairei grows with green, cylindrical to somewhat pyramidal shoots that reach heights of 20 to 30 centimeters with a diameter of up to 20 centimeters. There are nine to ten ribs . The tufted eight to ten, 2 to 3 centimeter long thorns cannot be divided into central and radial spines. They are strong, somewhat flattened and yellowish to brownish. The slender cephalium , made of brownish, thorn-like bristles and white wool, grows up to 10 centimeters high.
The pink flowers are up to 2 centimeters long and 1.5 centimeters in diameter. They protrude up to 1.2 centimeters from the cephalium. The slender pink fruits are up to 2 centimeters long.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Melocactus lemairei is common in Haiti and the Dominican Republic .
The first description as Echinocactus lemairei was in 1838 by Charles Lemaire . In 1840 he placed the species in the genus Melocactus . A nomenclature synonym is Cactus lemairei (Monv. Ex Lem.) Britton & Rose (1922) .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Near Threatened (NT) ", d. H. listed as low risk.
