The Melrose Rugby Football Club is a rugby union -Verein which in the Scottish Premiership plays. It is based in the Scottish Borders in Melrose .

The Melrose RFC was founded in 1877 and has been a member of the Scottish Rugby Union since 1880 . In 1911, the club first won the Border League, the oldest league in rugby union. He was able to repeat this success in 1939. Due to the Second World War , the game had to pause, so that no further championship games were played.

In 1973 a national league was introduced in Scotland, in which Melrose also participates. In the first few years, the club rose several times from the first division, but rose again immediately. In 1990 he was able to win the championship title for the first time. Further titles followed in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996 and 1997.

The club hosted the first rugby sevens tournament in history in 1883. Melrose RFC player Ned Haig came up with this variant. 22 national players have emerged from the club.
