Menesthios (son of Polydora)
Menesthios ( Greek Μενέσθιος ) is a figure in Greek mythology .
Menesthios was one of the five leaders of the Myrmidons before Troy , so he belonged to the contingent led by Achilles in the Trojan War . His mother was Polydora , the daughter of Peleus and the phthiotic Antigone . Homer names the river god Spercheios as the father of Menesthios , but in return for a substantial dowry, Polydora married Boros , the son of Perieres, who officially took over the role of father.
In the library of Apollodorus , however, Polydora is the daughter of Perieres and wife of Peleus, who took over the official paternity of the boy fathered by Spercheios.
