The meninting kingfisher ( Alcedo meninting ) is an Asian kingfisher .

features

The 17 cm long and 18 g heavy meninting kingfisher looks very similar to the European kingfisher , but the blue upper side and the orange lower side are more intensely colored. In addition, the ear covers of the adult bird are blue instead of orange.

The Meninting Kingfisher is a solitary and shy bird that hunts from a perch by the water. It feeds on fish, crustaceans and insects, which it catches in flight.

Reproduction

The breeding cave is dug into a vertical sandbar and consists of a 55-60 cm long tunnel with a 5 cm diameter that ends in a 10-12 cm high and 12-14 cm wide chamber.
