Mercado Negro is a Portuguese reggae band from Lisbon .

Band history

Mercado Negro was founded in 1999 by Messiah Santiago after he left the band Kussondulola , which he co-founded . With the singles "Beija-flor" (2004), "Oh Lua" (2004), "Levo-te comigo" (2006) and "Leoa Tigresa" (2006), Mercado Negro became more popular in Portugal.

style

Musically based on roots reggae , Mercado Negro are also influenced by African music and sounds from other Portuguese-speaking countries . In terms of text, Rastafari , Angola and Africa in general, but also nature, peace and human coexistence are the determining themes. The striving for harmony and understanding is always in the foreground in the text, but criticism of the consumer society or inhuman politics is also formulated. Texts as well as music, as well as the presentation of the sound carriers and posters, are determined by positive, nature-loving and sun-drenched images and associations.
