The F 700 is a concept vehicle from the Mercedes-Benz brand and was presented for the first time at the IAA 2007 in Frankfurt am Main .

Despite its size and weight, it consumes just 5.3 liters over a distance of 100 kilometers. The weight of the luxury sedan is 1.7 tons. According to the manufacturer, the CO 2 emissions of the F 700 are 127 g / km.

F 700 and the new DiesOtto

The newly developed Diesotto engine is primarily responsible for the power achieved. This is used for the first time in the F 700 as a four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1.8 liters and an output of 175 kW (238 hp). The torque should be 400 Nm. The F 700 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.6 seconds. The top speed was limited to 200 km / h. The engine also has direct injection, two turbochargers and variable compression.

The most important component of the new DiesOtto technology, however, is the room ignition combustion at part load. This is a highly efficient combustion process similar to diesel, which is particularly advantageous at low and medium engine speeds. The fuel-air mixture ignites itself. The F 700 is started like a conventional gasoline engine with a spark plug, which is also used at high loads. The exhaust gas cleaning is carried out by a standard three-way catalytic converter. The electric motor of the F 700 is particularly advantageous in urban traffic and provides a further 15 kW for acceleration.

landing gear

Another new invention is being used for the first time in the F 700 under the name Pre-Scan . Two lidar laser scanners integrated in the headlights scan the lane in front of the vehicle and detect unevenness. The active chassis ABC ( Active Body Control ) processes the information about the unevenness of the road ahead in such a way that it is supposed to increase driving comfort. Series launch as Magic Body Control 2013 in the Mercedes-Benz 222 series .

Servo-Human Machine Interface (Servo-HMI)

The servo HMI is a newly developed operating concept that the driver can use to communicate with his car. This is made possible for the occupants on the one hand by input via the Comand rotary control / push button, and on the other hand by an oral input via speech recognition. Both input variants are handled via the so-called avatar , a young woman generated on the screen.

interior

The wheelbase of the F 700, which is based on the S-Class , has been extended by 28.5 centimeters to 3.45 meters in order to provide more space in the interior. The well-being of the passengers is improved by the incorporated cork, which spreads a good mood with its light tone. Another important component is the seating concept, which offers space for four people. With the front passenger seat folded down, the right rear seat can be converted into a kind of reclining seat in the relax position. There are also two large glass surfaces integrated into the roof, a monitor with a screen diagonal of 51 cm and a surround sound system.

Exterior

The exterior of the F 700 is dynamic thanks to its streamlined lines and the wheel arches on display. The classic four-eye face with integrated LED lights and the transitions between the individual vehicle parts are primarily responsible for the elegant external appearance of the F 700.

series

The F 700 will not go into series production in the form presented. Whether the model will not roll off the production line at all, in a similar form or even heavily modified, is currently still open and depends on demand. So far, it is certain that the Mercedes inventions used in the F 700 will be added to the optional selection for almost all Mercedes-Benz models within the next three years. However, parts from the F 700 will be installed in the next S-Class .
