Merei is a large Romanian municipality west of the district capital Buzău in the district of the same name at the foot of the Dealu Mare hill .

There are excellent soil and climate conditions for viticulture in the community. Furthermore, the agricultural areas are also ideal for growing vegetables. The well-known spa in the incorporated village of Sărata-Monteoru is also located in the municipality . Originally they had drilled for oil and eventually came across the mineral spring.
