Merle Viirmaa (born June 15, 1974 in Tallinn ) is a former Estonian biathlete .

Merle Viirmaa lives in Saha . She started biathlon in 1987 and started for Dünamo . After Estonia separated from the Soviet Union in 1991, when she had reached the appropriate age at about the same time, she was promoted to the national team of her country. In 1993 she competed in her first World Cup races in the second half of the 1992/93 season . At the second stop of the following season in Pokljuka , the Estonian achieved her best international result in an individual race with 42nd place in an individual. Viirmaa's first international championship at the height of its career was participation in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer . She came to the side of Jelena Poljakova-Všivtseva , Eveli Peterson and Krista Lepik in the relay race and finished there in 12th place. The only participation in a biathlon world championship followed the following year in Antholz , where she was 76th in the sprint and 65th in the individual. After the season she ended her career.
