The Merseburger Verlag is the oldest church music publisher in Germany.

history

The Merseburg publishing house was founded in 1837 by Friedrich Meusel in Weißenfels . In 1849 it was taken over by Carl Wilhelm Merseburger and moved to Leipzig . The publishing house and archive were destroyed in the Second World War. After the Second World War, the publishing house managed a new start under the umbrella of the Evangelical Publishing House in Berlin as “Edition Merseburger”. From 1955 to 1972 the publisher Adolf Strube managed the publishing house. In 1972 Wolfgang Matthei took over the management of the publishing house, and in 1974 the company moved to Kassel . Renate Matthei has been the publisher's managing director since 2005 .

Publishing program

The catalog includes works by Georg Philipp Telemann , Orlando di Lasso , Dietrich Buxtehude and Georg Friedrich Handel in various degrees of difficulty. The publisher also publishes sacred music for church music practice.

The new publications include the ten-volume series of chorale auditions and intonations by the organist Sigmar Schickel, which covers the entire church year. In addition to church music, the Merseburg publishing house also publishes secular works. For example, works by the violin virtuoso and composer Louis Spohr were first published . Contemporary authors include Rudolf Mauersberger , Hans Chemin-Petit , Ludwig Prautzsch and Neithard Bethke .

The publishing program is supplemented by books on music history and science, instrument making, pedagogy and musical practice as well as scientific book series.
