history
The first fair took place in Offenburg in 1924. Due to the economic hardship due to the First World War and the post-war period, the then Offenburg city administration decided in 1957 to revive the economy with a trade fair. First of all, the Ortenau Autumn Fair , today's Upper Rhine Fair, was created . To this day, the autumn fair, which was renamed the Upper Rhine Fair in 1967, is the most popular event at Messe Offenburg.
In 1957, the Offenburg city administration began planning a trade fair hall, which was implemented with the completion of the Upper Rhine Hall in 1963. In 1972 another permanent hall, the Ortenauhalle, was inaugurated. This was followed by other halls in the next few years. Today there are seven halls on the exhibition grounds. The new Upper Rhine Hall, completed in 2008 for 22 million euros, into which parts of the original hall from 1963 were integrated, is the newest and most modern hall. Since 1983 there has been a prefabricated house exhibition with twelve model houses on the site . In 1982 and 1983 a four-star hotel was built to accommodate visitors and exhibitors at the fair in the immediate vicinity.
Trade fairs and events
Around 260 events take place on the exhibition grounds every year. In addition to trade fairs and exhibitions, this also includes conferences, church meetings, sporting events and TV productions.
