history

Being the subsequent exhibition center in Innsbruck hosted the first Tyrolean provincial exhibition , which according to the pattern of the former world exhibitions d for the first time from June 15 to October 4, 1893 under the "Protectorate SM. Emperor Franz Josef I. ”took place - at that time for the entire crown land of Fürstete Grafschaft Tirol . Topics were "Horses, cattle and small cattle, fruit and horticulture, South Tyrolean wine exhibition, dairy, fish and beekeeping, hunting and forestry, tourism, mining, construction and engineering, industrial hygiene as well as treasures of old Tyrolean art and art industry." “Daily concerts by the exhibition orchestra, a circus, an oriental labyrinth, an international cycling competition and the presentation of customs and traditions”. In 1923 the "Innsbrucker Messe Gesellschaft" was founded. In June 2004 the company was merged with Congress Innsbruck GmbH to form Congress und Messe Innsbruck GmbH . Since the exhibition center in the middle of the city cannot be expanded and parking problems arise especially at major events, relocation to the outskirts was discussed for years. However, it was finally decided to keep the previous location and modernize it. In January 2012 the Innsbruck Exhibition Center reopened after a major new building and renovation.

building

Exhibition hall B as seen from Ing.-Etzel-Straße

There are a total of six exhibition halls on the exhibition grounds . The largest exhibition hall B with 7,000 m² is a listed building . It is a steel frame structure that was originally built for the Prague jubilee exhibition in 1891 and came to Innsbruck in 1892/93. As with the Eiffel Tower, the steel framework construction in the tradition of the second half of the 19th century could simply be screwed together and therefore dismantled again. During the time of the monarchy and in the post-war and inter-war period, the hall was used for exhibitions. In 2010 it was found that the historic steel structure under the building was almost completely preserved, even the historic glazing was still partially in place. As a result, the hall at the Innsbruck exhibition center was dismantled and has had its old look again since 2012.

Events

The most important event is the Innsbruck Autumn Fair, which takes place annually in September or October (2014: 450 exhibitors, 51,000 visitors). In addition, the Innsbruck spring fair and numerous trade fairs are held on the site.

In 2020, the 67th Municipal Day of the Austrian Association of Municipalities and the associated municipal fair will take place on the exhibition grounds in Innsbruck . The municipal day and the fair have taken place every year in a different federal state for two decades, but in 2020 Innsbruck will host the fair for the first time as an accompanying event of the municipal day, although the municipal fair has been accompanying the municipal day since 1995.
