The Metallic grave beetles or Metallic shoulder runners ( Pterostichus burmeisteri ) is a beetle from the family of ground beetles (Carabidae).

features

The beetles reach a body length of 12 to 14.5 millimeters. Their bodies usually have a metallic, copper-colored shine, only rarely are there gold-green or blue-violet individuals. The deck wings ( Elytren ) are very smooth and only finely striped lengthways. In the third space there are two to three, mostly difficult to see pore points. The legs and antennae are colored brown. The undersides of the tarsi are hairy.

Occurrence

The animals occur in Central Europe , east to the Balkans . They are absent in Northern Europe, the Netherlands and the British Isles and live in foothills and mountainous forests. They are missing in the lowlands. You can find them under stones, wood and in moss, but also on forest paths. The adults of the new generation hatch in autumn and overwinter. They are often to very often found locally, especially on marl , limestone or clay soils .
