history

The company's roots go back to the "Preparatory Rolling Mill" founded by Martin de Pury & Cie in Le Locle in 1852 . This specialized in the melting of gold and the manufacture of watch cases. In 1864 the plant, which then had five employees, was taken over by Banque du Locle .

In 1918 the company became the property of the Swiss Bank Corporation . The company's activities were expanded to include the refining of precious metals and the manufacture of bars. In 1936 the bank association founded Métaux Précieux SA Metalor in Le Locle. As a result, production activities were initially expanded at the Neuchâtel location and later in other countries. In 1998 the bank association sold its subsidiary to a group of industrial investors from Switzerland.

In September 2016, Metalor was 100% sold to the Japanese group of precious metal manufacturers Tanaka Kikinzoku . Previously, the majority with 50.5% of the shares was held by the French investor Astorg Partners , which took over Metalor in 2009.
