The Tanaka Kikinzoku Group is a Japanese manufacturer of precious metals founded in 1885 with a focus on industrial products and the like. a. for the electronics, semiconductor and automotive industries. The company is represented in Europe by the Tanaka Kikinzoku International (Europe) GmbH branch.

The name Tanaka Kikinzoku ( IPA pronunciation : [ ˈtanaka kiˈkinzokɯ ]) goes back to the family name of the owner family “Tanaka” ( 田中 ) and the Japanese word for precious metal “Kikinzoku” ( 貴金属 ).

Tanaka claims to be the world market leader for bond wire and catalysts for PEM fuel cells .

The company has “Good Delivery” status with the LBMA and the LPPM and is also one of three companies worldwide to be accredited as a “Good Delivery Referee” by both organizations.

1885–1923 foundation and early years

1885: Umekichi Tanaka started a money exchange business as "Tanaka Shoten" in Kitajimacho, Nihonbashi , Tokyo (today Kayabacho, Nihonbashi)

1889: Successful manufacture of industrial products made of platinum

1892: Kamekichi Yamazaki, owner of the jewelry wholesaler "Shimizu Shoten" (forerunner of Tanaka Kikinzoku Jewelery) founds his business in Asakusa , Tokyo .

1907: Laboratory equipment such as platinum vessels and electrodes are exhibited at the Tokyo Expo (in Ueno Park ). Successful manufacture of platinum thin wire for use in light sources. Start of the Osmiridium refining.

1914: Manufacture of platinum electrodes for the production of potassium chlorate (KClO 3 ).

1915: Hypodermic needles made from platinum-iridium alloys

1921: Manufacture of electrical contact materials for telecommunications applications begins. Hypodermic needles made of gold and nickel for dental applications.

1923: Conclusion of an agreement with the USSR on the exclusive distribution of platinum and palladium in East Asia.

1965: Merger with Sel-Rex, USA (now Enthone ).

1970: Foundation of Tanaka Kikinzoku Hanbai KK

1973: Published “Retail Gold Price” in connection with the liberalization of gold imports.

1974: Heesung Metal Ltd is founded, merged with the Lucky Gold Star Group , South Korea.

1978: Accredited as “Good Delivery Refiner” on the London gold market .

1980: Presentation of the "Gold Accumulation Plan" as a new investment product. Certification as a “Good Delivery” manufacturer on the precious metal markets in London and Zurich.

1981: 2nd gold boom.

1985: Publication of the book "Science of Precious Metals" for the 100th anniversary of the company

1986: Establishment of Taiwan Tanaka Kikinzoku Kogyo Co., Ltd

1990: The group company Yamazaki KK changes its name to Tanaka Kikinzoku Jewelry

1991: Foundation of the international sales company Tanaka Kikinzoku International KK

2003: Accredited as Good Delivery Referee of the LBMA

2006: Relocation of the head office to the Tokyo Building, Marunouchi ( Tokyo ) from the long-standing company headquarters in Kayabacho, Nihonbashi (Tokyo).
