Beer meters (also meter beer and sometimes even beer meters ) is in various restaurants, especially in the Rhineland common, delivery form of beer . The specialty is that the beer is poured into glasses (usually 0.2  l ), which are then served on a "1 meter long" wooden stand. Depending on the design of the wooden stand, which is offered in stores as a beer glass carrier , beer carrier or meter board , up to 15 glasses fit on it.

Distribution and variants

In parts of the Eifel , when you order “one meter of beer”, you get eleven beers (served on a wooden stand) for the price of ten. This is particularly common when ordering for a group at a folk festival. Similar offers are not only common in the rest of Rhineland-Palatinate and Berlin , but can also be found in other regions of Germany and abroad.

In the meantime, the amount of one meter has also been transferred to other drinks (“one meter Bacardi-Cola”, “one meter mix ”) - but these are usually served on a tray and not on the meter board. As a (not necessarily serious) increase, the square meter is offered at some festivals . Especially thirsty groups and clubs could buy 121 drinks for the price of 100.

Related forms of delivery of beer

In some pubs , brewery cellars and festival tents etc. the “meter beer” is also served in a one meter high Plexiglas tube - with a capacity of around 4 to 5 liters - as well as an integrated lower part with tap and stand or base. Such portable self-tapping devices are generally referred to as a beer tower (also beer column or beverage column ). They can be found in many countries around the world - often with lower heights and sometimes different container designs as well as smaller capacities of 2.5, 3.5 or 4 liters - especially in adventure restaurants and sports bars, etc.

Some breweries, regional advertising associations, etc. and gift providers offer various wooden beer carriers filled with beer bottles as (promotional) gifts, "souvenirs" or souvenirs - mostly as a selection of different types of beer from one or more breweries and sometimes also from different countries. Such marketing or gift items are also often sold under the name “one meter of beer” or “half a meter of beer” and contain around 12 to 16 or 6 to 8 bottles of beer.

In the British Isles and other countries around the world, so-called Beer Flights or Flights of Beer are offered in some pubs and brewery restaurants , which is a selection of small portions of different types of beer. Depending on the bar range, four to eight different types of beer are served in small glasses of 3 to 5  fl.oz. served on a small wooden board, the so-called beer flight paddle . As a popular way to test different types of beer, beer flights can also be found in the vicinity of craft beer and microbreweries .
