The Methodist Church Aurich was built as a hall church in 1878 . In 2010 the building was abandoned as a church meeting place.

history

From 1809 the first Methodist Christians appeared in East Frisia. Churches were founded in the course of the pronounced missionary activity of the Methodist preacher Franz Klüsner , who moved from Edewecht ( Oldenburg ) to Aurich in 1866 and worked as an evangelist there and in the Aurich region . In his apartment he held prayer hours on Wednesday and Sunday evenings with the aim of "not separating, but visiting and gathering the religiously stunted lower classes in front of others". The Methodist Church was built in 1878 and its own preacher was hired in 1879. Attempts by the Aurich community to also establish subsidiary communities in Engerhafe , Victorbur and Moordorf were unsuccessful in the long run. In 1897 the congregation had 47 members and 18 trial members.

In contrast to the Bethlehem Church in Neuschoo , which has a large catchment area, the Aurich parish, as a typical city parish, was concentrated on Aurich. In 1966 Aurich was dissolved as an independent district and merged with Neuschoo. After only twelve people attended the Sunday service in Aurich, joint services have been held in Neuschoo since January 1, 2010 and the Aurich location has been given up.

Building description

Access to the hall church is through a round arched portal on the gable side . The entire western gable side is newly clinkered. The previous two small windows in the gable triangle were bricked up. The only decorative elements on this side are a cross in the gable triangle , which was previously illuminated by neon tubes, as well as two angled decorative strips at the point where the central area originally emerged like risalit and merged into the gable triangle, which was previously highlighted by a profile. On the southern long side there are pointed arch windows in neo -Gothic style . The interior has a simple design and is closed off by a flat ceiling. In the front area, which is slightly raised by two steps, there is a pulpit and a table, both of which are made of wood. A wooden cross hangs on the wall, which forms an optical unit with the altar table. A door behind the pulpit area gives access to another community room.
