Metro de Curitiba

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Metrô de Curitiba is under construction. It is an electric light rail system on rails in the urban area of Curitiba in Brazil .

history

Since 1970 there have been efforts to build a local transport system in Curitiba. The first plans were based on bus operation, while alternatives that worked independently of crude oil were gradually sought. The first well-founded proposals for a system with electric rail transport go back to 1975.

It was not until 1990 that the first concrete proposal for the installation of a VLT light rail in Curitiba was made. A route was to be built for north-south traffic, but this project was not pursued any further. In July 2007, the prefecture of Curitiba had a study and tender drawn up on the construction of a metro . Although 44 companies showed interest in the implementation of the project, not a single company submitted a concrete implementation proposal. In December of the same year, a new tender was issued, which, due to legal disputes, did not lead to the tender until 2009. In March 2009 the contract was signed by the companies that won the tender, and in September the first plan for a metro line in Curitiba was presented.

The Linha Azul (blue line) will now be built from 2010, it is expected to be completed in 2016. In addition, another five lines have been proposed for construction, for which planning should be started:

  • Verde (Circular - Interbairros 2)
  • Laranja (Centro Cívico - Boqueirão)
  • Amarela (Campo Comprido - Pinhais)
  • Vermelha (Aeroporto Afonso Pena - Rua das Flores)
  • Linha Marrom (BR-476)
