history
The Metrô de Teresina was founded in 1989 with the aim of modernizing the city's local transport and creating a high-capacity transport system.
Construction began at the end of 1989. In order to reduce the construction costs, existing track connections were used, which belonged to the route network of the former state railway Rffsa . The line of the Metrô de Teresina went into operation in November 1990.
In March 2008 it was announced that the operation of the metro would be transferred to the state company Companhia Brasileira de Trens Urbanos .
