Epic Store Controversy

At the end of January 2019, about two weeks before the announced release, publisher Deep Silver stopped the pre-sale of the game on the leading distribution platform Steam and announced that it would initially sell the game exclusively for one year through the Epic Games Store, which was launched in December . Epic had secured the exclusivity of Metro Exodus and other games with financial commitments and a higher margin on the sales price in order to establish its own shop as competition to Steam. However, Deep Silver's decision shortly before publication led to numerous negative reactions, so that Deep Silver's parent company THQ Nordic felt compelled to react to defend the business decision of its subsidiary. Epic Games stated that they want to forego similar short-term deals in the future. Regardless of the controversy, the game was able to sell twice as many units as its predecessor, according to Epic.
