Live and act

Rølvåg discovered music making as a child rather by accident. On excursions she cut off branches and made flutes out of them; she also drummed about on kitchen pots and pans. She started playing the trumpet in the local marching band at the age of eight before switching to the alto saxophone at the age of twelve . At the age of 15, she discovered jazz through her saxophone teacher, and she was enthusiastic about it. She sought contact with the Trondheim improvisation scene, where she soon developed into a sought-after musician. After an apprenticeship at the Volkshochschule in Sund, she studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo up to a bachelor's degree, before studying improvisation music at the Brooklyn Academy of Music .

She appeared on national radio and television ( NRK ) and gave concerts with Sidsel Endresen , Christian Wallumrød and Karin Krog as well as with Marina Abramovic , Tom Rainey , Tim Berne and Jim Black . In 2009 she was part of the Midtnorsk Ungdomsstorband (album Live at Dokkhuset ). With saxophonist Patrick Breiner and drummer Max Goldman, she formed the Trio Aella (album 2012 on 577 Records ). She also belongs to the large formation Torg , on whose album Kost / Elak / Gnäll ( Jazzland 2015) she can be heard. In 2015 she released a double album on ECM Records , only under her first name ; a selection was also released on vinyl in 2019. She has also composed for the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival , the Cikada Quartet and Rikskonsertene .
